Cartoon Network Amazone wins WWA Leading Edge Award 2014
Just one month after its official opening, Cartoon Network Amazone has been awarded the prestigious Leading Edge Award 2014 at the World Waterpark Association’s Symposium and Trade Show Awards in Las Vegas.
Thailand’s tourism minister also praised the new project, saying that the park is perfectly aligned with the country’s tourism strategy for 2015.
Opened on 3 October, 2014, Cartoon Network Amazone is the first ever Cartoon Network-themed waterpark, located in Bang Saray, close to Pattaya in Thailand. WWA’s board recognized that that the unique park, this year’s most anticipated opening, created a lot of buzz throughout the world and made waves in the industry.
The special award recognises park and supplier members, who through their combined efforts, have brought the project to fruition, thereby creating industry innovation and leadership. WWA also praised Cartoon Network Amazone for its many innovative design styles and themes, including the interactive nature of rides as well as attractions not seen before in the waterpark industry.
Mrs. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, sent her congratulations to Cartoon Network Amazone on receiving the award.
“This is a great opportunity to regain trust for the tourism industry in Thailand. It also coincides with the strategic plan to promote Thai tourism in 2015, which will emphasize transparency, spreading revenue, lessening social inequalities, and inspiring a love for their homeland among younger generations. These strategies are designed to build a new image for Thailand to help it become a high quality tourist destination. Thank you Cartoon Network Amazone and associates for believing in the Kingdom and choosing to invest in the first themed waterpark in Thailand.”
On hand to receive the award was Liakat Dhanji, Chairman of Amazon Falls, the developer of Cartoon Network Amazone. “We are honored to receive the Leading Edge award for our efforts. Our dreams of building Thailand’s first international theme park would not have been possible without the faith of Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, who allowed us to build a permanent home for the beloved characters of Cartoon Network, and our brilliant team of designers who worked in collaboration with waterslide manufacturers Polin Waterparks,” he said.
“Turner Broadcasting is very proud that the world’s first Cartoon Network-themed waterpark has opened in Thailand and is already winning prestigious awards. My congratulations go to the Amazon Falls management team and everyone at Turner who has made this unique project come to life,” added Ricky Ow, President of Turner Asia Pacific.
