Chumphon Migrating Raptors Watching 2014
Venue: Khao Dinso, Prathiu district, Chumphon
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Chumphon Office is inviting local and international visitors to participating in the Chumphon Migrating Raptors Watching 2014 when the province is set to see abundant numbers of migrating birds.
Around October of every year, when winter descends on the northern hemisphere, birds of various species will flee the cold and head for warmer climates, such as, the Malay Peninsula.
During the period, Chumphon will see more than 200,000 migrating raptors, including Chinese goshawk, Japanese goshawk, grey-faced buzzard, oriental honey buzzard and the black baza, flying past Khao Dinso, a mountainous area in this southern province of Thailand.
Such natural phenomenon always captivates bird-watching enthusiasts, and makes Chumphon one of the most important learning centres on migrating birds in Southeast Asia.
To mark this special event, Chumphon Provincial Authorities is organising the Migrating Raptors Watching Festival 2014 from 1 to 31 October 2014 to boost local people’s understanding of birds of prey and raise public awareness of the importance of environmental protection.
